Who Needs a Wyoming Sales Tax License

Every vendor must obtain a sales tax license from the Wyoming Department of Revenue to conduct business in the state.

For a seller outside Wyoming, the economic nexus threshold is $100,000 in sales in the current or previous calendar year. Wyoming's own rule sets which sales count toward it and when registration must follow.

How to Apply

You apply to the Wyoming Department of Revenue, Excise Tax Division. You can apply online or on a paper application. Go to Wyoming's registration page.

Wyoming requires your registration to be displayed at the place of business.

What It Costs

The sales tax license costs $60. The statute charges this fee to each new vendor, except a remote seller that has no requirement to register in Wyoming or that uses one of the technology models under the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement. It charges the same $60 to reinstate a license forfeited for failing to file returns on time.

We have not confirmed whether Wyoming can require security, such as a deposit or bond; check with the Wyoming Department of Revenue, Excise Tax Division.

Does It Expire?

The sales tax license does not expire. The Department may revoke it, including after three years with no reported sales unless you show cause to keep it, and a license can be forfeited if you fail to file returns on time.

More Than One Location

A business needs a separate sales tax license for each place of business in Wyoming.

Local Sales Taxes in Wyoming

County, city, town and resort district sales and use taxes, including local lodging taxes, are administered by the Wyoming Department of Revenue, and no additional local license is needed for them.

This guide is general information, not legal or tax advice, and reading it does not create an attorney-client relationship. It reports what each state's law and tax agency say about the registration a business holds before it makes taxable sales, with the sources this page cites. It cannot tell you whether your own business must register: that turns on what you sell, where you sell it from, and how much you sell into the state, and fees, security rules and thresholds change between our reviews. Confirm your own position with the tax agency named on this page before you start selling.
