Marketplace Verification

How to pass eBay verification as an LLC

eBay verifies every seller's identity and business details before enabling payouts. For an LLC registered as a business seller, eBay collects your legal business name, EIN, a physical business address, and identification for beneficial owners, then links a checking account or debit card to receive payouts. eBay also requires a valid taxpayer ID on Form W-9 for every seller and, under IRS rules, applies backup withholding if your name and TIN don't match IRS records. Forming your LLC correctly is what lets your business details clear each check.

What eBay requires from an LLC

  • Legal business name match. Your LLC's legal business name, as it appears on your business registration documents, must match your eBay account and the name on your linked checking account for payouts.
  • Employer Identification Number (EIN). If you register as a Registered Business (single- or multi-member LLC), eBay collects your EIN. eBay requires a valid 9-digit taxpayer ID on Form W-9; a missing or unmatched TIN triggers IRS-mandated 24% backup withholding on your payouts.
  • Business registration document. eBay may request an IRS 147C EIN verification letter, certified Articles of Organization (LLC), an unexpired government-issued business license, or a Secretary of State document showing the state seal to verify your business is validly registered.
  • Beneficial owner identity. Individual identification information, and in some cases a photo ID, for the Primary Contact, Beneficial Owners (anyone owning 25%+ of the LLC or with significant control), and any other stakeholders.
  • Physical business address. A physical business address, including country of registration/residence. eBay does not accept PO Boxes.
  • Checking account or debit card for payouts. A checking account (or Visa/Mastercard debit card) whose account name matches your eBay business name exactly, verified by logging into your bank, uploading a bank statement less than 3 months old, or confirming two microdeposits.
  • Tax interview (Form W-9 / W-8). Complete an electronic Form W-9 with your LLC's legal name and TIN (SSN, ITIN, or EIN). Non-US sellers certify foreign status on Form W-8BEN (individuals) or W-8BEN-E (foreign entities) to stop backup withholding.
