City and County Business Licenses

Wyoming law lets every city and town license, tax and regulate any business conducted within its limits. The Secretary of State says that, beyond registering with its office, a company may need a specific business license or permit and to contact the city clerk's office where it does business.

Professional and Trade Licenses

Wyoming licenses regulated professions through separate state boards, such as the Board of Architects and Landscape Architects and the Board of Dental Examiners, many of which share administrative support through the Department of Administration and Information. Contractor licensing other than electrical is left to the local jurisdiction, and electrical contractors go to the Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety. Frequently Asked Questions

This guide is general information, not legal or tax advice, and reading it does not create an attorney-client relationship. It reports what each state's law and agencies say about a general state business license, with the sources this page cites. It cannot tell you which licenses your own business needs: that turns on what the business does, where it operates, and what its city or county requires, and fees and exemptions change between our reviews. Confirm your own position with the state agency named on this page, the city or county where the business is located, and any state board that licenses your trade before you open.
