Editorial Policy
Our standards for research, accuracy, sourcing, and corrections — so you know exactly how we produce and maintain the information on this site.

Our Mission
MyStateLLC exists to give entrepreneurs and small business owners free, accurate, state-specific information about LLC formation and compliance — without requiring them to hire an attorney for basic procedural questions. Every guide on this site is designed to answer real questions with real numbers: actual filing fees, actual deadlines, actual steps — specific to the state where you operate.
Who Is Responsible for This Content
MyStateLLC is founded and operated by Edmond Hui, a software engineer and serial entrepreneur based in New York who has personally formed and operated multiple LLCs across different states. Edmond reviews and is editorially responsible for the content standards described in this policy.
Content is produced with AI assistance and validated against primary sources. Editorial decisions — what topics to cover, how to frame information, what sources to trust — are made by the human editor. AI is a production tool, not an editorial one.
Primary Sources
All state-specific data — filing fees, processing times, annual report deadlines and fees, registered agent requirements, and Secretary of State URLs — is sourced directly from each state's official Secretary of State website. We do not use third-party fee databases as our primary source.
🏛 Secretary of State websites
Filing fees, processing times, form numbers, official filing portals
📋 State LLC statutes
Operating agreement requirements, annual report rules, dissolution procedures
🏦 IRS publications
Tax classification rules, EIN requirements, S-Corp election procedures
⚖️ State tax authority websites
State income tax rates, franchise taxes, state-specific tax obligations
When state-specific information is genuinely uncertain or varies by circumstance (e.g., a late fee that the Secretary of State's office applies inconsistently), we say so explicitly rather than presenting a confident figure that may not apply to every reader's situation.
How Content Is Produced
Data collection from primary sources
State-specific figures (fees, deadlines, URLs) are collected from official Secretary of State and state tax authority websites and structured into a verified data set that drives every guide on this site.
AI-assisted drafting
Explanatory content is generated with AI using the verified state data as ground truth. The AI is explicitly instructed to use the exact figures from the data set — not to invent or approximate them. This allows us to maintain coverage across all 50 states while keeping each guide state-specific.
Human editorial review
Each content type is reviewed for factual accuracy, appropriate scope (is this educational information vs. legal advice?), and practical usefulness. Guides that contain incorrect state data or that overstate certainty are corrected or removed.
Ongoing maintenance
State filing fees, annual report deadlines, and regulations change. We monitor Secretary of State announcements and review our data set annually. When a change is discovered, affected guides are updated and their last-updated date is revised.
Scope and Limitations
Our guides cover general LLC formation and compliance procedures. They do not cover:
- Professional LLC (PLLC) licensing requirements specific to individual professions
- Tax advice tailored to individual financial circumstances
- Multi-state operations beyond general guidance on foreign qualification
- Litigation, contracts, or disputes
- Immigration or visa considerations related to business formation
For any of the above, we recommend consulting a licensed attorney in your state.
Editorial Independence and Affiliate Relationships
Some pages on this site contain affiliate links to third-party LLC formation services (currently ZenBusiness and Northwest Registered Agent). If you purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
Our affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial content. Specifically:
- We do not give higher ratings or more prominent placement to services because they pay higher commissions
- We do not suppress negative information about affiliate partners
- We do not present a service as the only option when viable alternatives exist
- Affiliate links are disclosed on every page where they appear
The state-specific procedural content (fees, deadlines, filing steps) is factual and the same regardless of whether an affiliate link is present on that page.
Corrections Policy
We take factual accuracy seriously. If you find an error — a wrong filing fee, an outdated deadline, an incorrect description of a state's rules — please report it:
Report an error
Email ed@postearthholdings.com with the page URL, the specific claim that appears incorrect, and a source (e.g. a link to the Secretary of State website) if available. We aim to review correction requests within 5 business days and update affected pages promptly.
When a material factual error is corrected, we update the guide's "last updated" date to reflect the revision.
Update Frequency
State LLC fees and rules change — new legislation, fee increases, and procedural updates happen every year. Our review schedule:
Annually (January)
Full data review — filing fees, annual report deadlines, and SoS URLs verified for all 50 states
As discovered
Mid-year corrections when a reader reports an error or a significant legislative change is identified
On publication
Every new guide is dated on publication; the last-updated date reflects the most recent substantive revision
Continuous
