Does a cleaning business need a license in Indiana?
Indiana issues no statewide license for a cleaning business. Local registrations and specialty permits can still apply.
The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency's alphabetical list of regulated professions runs from Accountancy to Veterinary Medicine with no cleaning, janitorial or maid service entry, and Indiana has no general state business license. The Department of Revenue requires a Registered Retail Merchant Certificate of a business that sells goods or tangible personal property, and cleaning is not among the additional registrations it lists. City and county licenses and employer registrations apply separately.
