Entrepreneurship in Indiana
Indiana hosts Eli Lilly, Cook Medical, and Salesforce's second-largest US office — creating a life sciences and enterprise tech ecosystem that punches well above its weight. Indianapolis is also the crossroads of American logistics: three interstate highways intersect in the metro, and FedEx, Amazon, and UPS all operate major Indiana distribution hubs.
Indiana is the #1 state for manufacturing as a percentage of GDP — and its factories are aggressively seeking automation software, predictive maintenance tools, and workforce management platforms. B2B startups here can close enterprise deals with manufacturers that bring immediate revenue and credibility at scale.

Venture Ecosystem
Indiana's startup ecosystem is anchored by Indianapolis and West Lafayette. Elevate Ventures is the state's most active early-stage investor with over 350 investments. High Alpha (Indianapolis) is nationally recognized for its venture studio model — it builds B2B SaaS companies from scratch and spins out multiple companies per year, more than any comparable studio in the Midwest. Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette is one of the largest university-affiliated research parks in the US. TechPoint, Indiana's tech industry association, provides ecosystem infrastructure. Salesforce's significant Indianapolis presence creates enterprise software talent density, and Indiana's advanced manufacturing heritage generates industrial-tech and logistics software opportunities unavailable in coastal markets.
Regulatory Climate
Indiana LLCs pay a $95 formation fee and a $32 biennial report fee due in the anniversary month every other year — one of the most favorable maintenance cost structures in the Midwest. Indiana has no franchise tax on LLCs. The state's flat income tax (3.15% in 2023, reducing to 2.9% by 2025) is among the lowest in the country for pass-through LLC income. Indiana imposes a county-level income tax (0.5%–3.38% depending on county) in addition to the state rate. No personal property tax on business equipment for companies with under $80K in assets. The Department of Revenue processes standard business tax registrations within 5–7 business days.
