Does a plumbing business need a license in Mississippi?
Mississippi issues no license of its own for plumbers. Its contractor licensing reaches this work through 4 license classes.
Mississippi issues no statewide individual journeyman or master plumber license. The State Board of Contractors licenses the contracting business and carries plumbing classifications on both the residential and the commercial side, and a residential plumbing subcontractor of any tier must be licensed no matter the dollar amount of the project. On the commercial side the Board's certificate requirement reaches contracts of $50,000 or more.
The plumbing business itself must be licensed or registered, not only the people doing the work.
The certificate of licensure is issued to the person or entity that contracts, including a corporation, limited liability company, limited liability partnership or limited partnership. The entity qualifies through a qualifying party who is an owner, responsible managing officer, responsible managing employee or member of the executive staff and who sits the required examinations.
