Does a plumbing business need a license in Nebraska?
Nebraska runs no single statewide license covering every plumbing business. What applies depends on the work and where you do it.
Nebraska operates no statewide plumbing licensing scheme. Sections 18-1901 to 18-1907 of the Revised Statutes let a city or village establish a plumbing board that examines applicants and issues a license authorizing plumbing in that city or village, so the plumbing credential is municipal. All contractors doing business in the state separately register with the Nebraska Department of Labor.
Where Nebraska does license this work, the credential is issued to a qualified individual. Whether the business must also register is set by whoever issues it.
Nebraska issues no state plumbing license to a company. Contractors and subcontractors doing business in Nebraska register with the Nebraska Department of Labor under the Contractor Registration Act, which is a registration rather than a plumbing credential.
