How to File a Trade Name for an LLC in Nebraska

By Edmond Hui · Last updated October 7, 2026

Short answer

Nebraska's law lets an LLC register a trade name; we found no rule requiring it. An LLC files the Application for Registration of Trade Name with the Secretary of State. If it registers, it must also publish notice of the filing in a newspaper.

Cost and Renewal

The application costs $110 filed on paper or in the office and $100 filed online.

The registration has a 10-year term.

Renewal costs $110.00.

Publication

If you register, you must then publish one notice in a newspaper of general circulation published in the city or village where the business is to be located, or in a county newspaper if the city or village has none. Proof of publication must be filed with the Secretary of State within 45 days after registration, or the Secretary of State cancels the registration.

Does it protect the name?

Registration lets the registrant sue a business that uses a confusingly similar copy of the name, but it does not override rights someone else gained in good faith by using the name, whenever those rights were gained.

It reports what each state's filing office publishes about registering a business name, with the sources this page cites. A filing here does not register a federal trademark, and fees and forms change between our reviews. Confirm with the office named on this page before you file.
