Does a landscaping business need a license in Nebraska?
Nebraska issues no license of its own for landscapers. Its contractor licensing reaches this work through the Contractor Registration once the business takes $5,000 or more in a year for this work.
Nebraska issues no landscaping license and no competency-based contractor license. The Contractor Registration Act requires registration with the Department of Labor before any construction work, defined at Neb. Rev. Stat. 48-2103 as work on real property and annexations including new work, additions, alterations, installations and repairs, and the department states that a contractor is any person or business who engages in or arranges for work on real property other than their own property, which reaches landscape installation. Neb. Rev. Stat. 48-2104 excludes a person who earns less than $5,000 annually for construction services, so the figure is an annual receipts test rather than a contract value, and the registration is taken out by the firm, partnership, limited liability company or corporation itself.
The landscaping business itself must be licensed or registered, not only the people doing the work.
