Does a landscaping business need a license in Kentucky?
Kentucky issues no statewide license for a landscaping business. Local registrations and specialty permits can still apply.
Kentucky issues no state landscaping license and no state general contractor license. Title XXVI of the Kentucky Revised Statutes, which enumerates the licensed occupations and professions, carries KRS 323A for landscape architecture, KRS 318 for plumbers and KRS 227A for electricians and electrical contractors, and no chapter for landscapers or general contractors. The Department of Agriculture licenses pesticide applicators under KRS 217B, and KRS 249.060 requires nurseries and nursery stock dealers to be licensed.

Pesticide and herbicide application is licensed separately from landscaping itself in most states, and that license is usually the one a general landscaping business actually needs.
The entity filing is separate from anything the license requires. In Kentucky it is made with the Kentucky Secretary of State. File directly with the state here. The order matters wherever the license is issued to the company rather than to a person: the entity has to exist before an application can name it.
