Does a contracting business need a license in Nevada?
Nevada issues 3 license classes for general contractors.
Nevada makes it unlawful to engage in business or act in the capacity of a contractor, or to bid on a Nevada job, without an active license from the Nevada State Contractors Board. NRS 624.031(6) exempts repair or maintenance work valued at less than $1,000 including labor and materials, and that exemption is lost where a building permit is required, where the work is of a type performed by a plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, heating or air conditioning contractor, or where the work is part of a larger project. NRS 624.215 divides the contracting business into general engineering, general building and specialty branches.
The contracting business itself must be licensed or registered, not only the people doing the work.
NRS 624.260(2)(b) treats a copartnership, corporation or other organization as the applicant or licensee, qualifying through the appearance of a responsible managing officer or member of its personnel.

What the LLC has to do first
Where the state licenses the company rather than only the individual, the LLC has to exist before the license application can name it.
The entity filing is separate from anything the license requires. In Nevada it is made with the Nevada Secretary of State. File directly with the state here. The order matters wherever the license is issued to the company rather than to a person: the entity has to exist before an application can name it.
