North Carolina licenses plumbing contracting statewide through the State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors. Class I covers plumbing systems in all structures and Class II is limited to single family detached residential dwellings, with restricted classifications such as the limited plumbing contractor license alongside them. The statute sets no dollar value at which the license begins to apply.
The plumbing business itself must be licensed or registered, not only the people doing the work.
The statute requires the license before any person, firm or corporation engages in or offers to engage in the business of plumbing contracting, so the company is licensed and not only the individual plumbers it employs.
