Does a landscaping business need a license in Arkansas?
Arkansas issues no license of its own for landscapers. Its contractor licensing reaches this work through 3 license classes on work valued above $2,000.
Arkansas has no separate landscaping license, and landscaping is a classification within contractor licensing, listed by the board as Landscaping, irrigation, lawn sprinkler systems, and streams. Two thresholds apply and the lower one binds: residential and home improvement work on a preexisting single family residence and its appurtenant property is exempt only at or below $2,000 under Ark. Code Ann. 17-25-513(3)(A), while commercial work becomes licensable at $50,000 under Ark. Code Ann. 17-25-101(a)(1). The board's commercial classification list also flags Landscaping with planting as needing a trade license in addition to the contractor classification.
The landscaping business itself must be licensed or registered, not only the people doing the work.
