Alabama licenses plumbing statewide through the Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board. The Board certifies individuals by class and separately registers the legal entities that engage in the business of plumbing or gas fitting.
The plumbing business itself must be licensed or registered, not only the people doing the work.
Every company that bids on or performs plumbing or gas fitting work registers with the Board and names a Principal Master, a certified master plumber or master gas fitter actively and continuously connected with the business who is responsible to the Board for the company's work. Journeyman and apprentice employees are separately certified or registered.
