Does a landscaping business need a license in Vermont?
Vermont issues no statewide license for a landscaping business. Local registrations and specialty permits can still apply.
Vermont issues no state landscaping license. The only statewide construction credential is the Office of Professional Regulation residential contractor registration, required under 26 V.S.A. 5501 before contracting with a homeowner for residential construction worth more than $10,000, and 26 V.S.A. 5502 lists landscaping among the activities the chapter does not apply to. The registered trades are the ones enumerated in Section 5501, including painting, paving, roofing and weatherization.

Pesticide and herbicide application is licensed separately from landscaping itself in most states, and that license is usually the one a general landscaping business actually needs.
The entity filing is separate from anything the license requires. In Vermont it is made with the Vermont Secretary of State. File directly with the state here.
