Does a landscaping business need a license in Missouri?
Missouri runs no single statewide license covering every landscaping business. What applies depends on the work and where you do it.
Missouri issues no statewide landscaping license and no statewide contractor license. RSMo 324.001 assigns the professional licensing boards to the Division of Professional Registration and names no contractor or landscaping board, and landscape architects are licensed with architects, engineers and land surveyors under chapter 327. RSMo 281.035 requires a certified commercial applicator's license, held by the individual rather than the company, for anyone who uses or supervises the use of pesticides on the lands of another.
Where Missouri does license this work, the credential is issued to a qualified individual. Whether the business must also register is set by whoever issues it.

What the LLC has to do first
Pesticide and herbicide application is licensed separately from landscaping itself in most states, and that license is usually the one a general landscaping business actually needs.
The entity filing is separate from anything the license requires. In Missouri it is made with the Missouri Secretary of State. File directly with the state here. The order matters wherever the license is issued to the company rather than to a person: the entity has to exist before an application can name it.
