Does a contracting business need a license in Georgia?
Georgia issues 4 license classes for general contractors.
Georgia licenses residential and general contracting through a board housed in the Secretary of State's office. The statutory definition of residential contractor reaches work only where the total value of the work or the compensation, whichever is higher, exceeds $2,500, so smaller residential jobs fall outside the license. The general contractor categories carry no dollar floor, and separate exemptions cover recognized specialty trades, disclosed repair work that does not affect structural integrity, and Department of Transportation prequalified contractors.
The contracting business itself must be licensed or registered, not only the people doing the work.
The board's guidance states that any contracting company registered with the Georgia Corporations Division that intends to perform work in Georgia must have at least one licensed qualifying agent, and the company's license number goes inactive if the qualifying agent disaffiliates.

Where the state licenses the company rather than only the individual, the LLC has to exist before the license application can name it.
The entity filing is separate from anything the license requires. In Georgia it is made with the Georgia Secretary of State. File directly with the state here.
