Does a plumbing business need a license in Wisconsin?

Wisconsin licenses plumbers statewide through the Department of Safety and Professional Services, and no person may engage in or work at plumbing in the state unless licensed by the department. A property owner may install plumbing in a one family dwelling the owner occupies and farmers may install plumbing in their own buildings, and a local ordinance may withdraw that exemption.
The license attaches to qualified individuals. Wisconsin does not require the plumbing business itself to hold one.
Wisconsin Statutes section 145.06 provides that licenses are issued only to individuals and that no license may be issued to or in the name of any firm or corporation. The duty that falls on the business is that a licensed master plumber be in charge at all times and be responsible for proper installation.
