He built MyStateLLC to provide the free, state-specific LLC guidance he wished existed when forming his own companies.
Wise (formerly TransferWise) must verify your business before activating international transfers and multi-currency balances. For a Mississippi LLC, Wise collects the business name as registered in Mississippi, the EIN, a verifiable US business address, and identity information for all beneficial owners holding 25% or more of the company. Wise also requires a description of the business's products or services and cannot accept virtual office addresses as the primary trading address.
In Mississippi the entity behind that check is an LLC created by filing a Certificate of Formation, which costs $50. Mississippi publishes a turnaround of same day (online). Because Mississippi names a member or manager on a routine public filing, the owner name Wise Business asks you to confirm is already a matter of public record.
What Wise Business requires, and how a Mississippi LLC meets each
| Requirement | How your Mississippi LLC satisfies it |
|---|---|
| Registered business name | Use the exact LLC name as Mississippi recorded it on your Certificate of Formation; it must match your bank account holder name. |
| Employer / Taxpayer Identification Number | Provide your federal EIN (free from the IRS; non-US founders without an SSN must apply via Form SS-4 by fax or phone rather than the online tool) — independent of Mississippi. |
| Business registered and trading address | Use a US street address registered to the LLC in Mississippi (your Mississippi registered-agent or virtual business address), since a PO box is usually rejected. |
| Beneficial owner identity (25%+ owners) | Provide a government ID for each beneficial owner named in your Mississippi filings. Mississippi names a member or manager on a routine public filing, so at least one name already matches state records. |
| Business registration documents | Upload the Certificate of Formation Mississippi returned to you, stamped and approved. |
Mississippi-specific things to watch
- Mississippi names a member or manager on a routine public filing, so Wise Business's beneficial-owner check will line up with public state records — you still upload a government ID for each owner. (The Certificate of Formation does not list members, but the mandatory annual report under Miss. Code § 79-29-215 requires the names and business addresses of managers (if manager-managed) or the name and address of at least one member (if member-managed), plus principal officers if any.)
- Mississippi issues a Certificate of Formation rather than "Articles of Organization." When Wise Business asks for "formation documents," upload your Certificate of Formation.
- Budget for Mississippi's ongoing LLC costs before projecting your Wise Business margins: No franchise or privilege tax on LLCs (Mississippi's franchise tax applies to corporations and is being phased out); note the foreign LLC annual report carries a $250 fee while the domestic LLC annual report is $0.
Mississippi sales tax & nexus rules for Wise Business sellers
Mississippi charges a 7% state sales-tax rate. Payments through Wise Business are not covered by marketplace-facilitator laws — you collect and remit yourself. Registration is required before your first taxable sale if you have physical presence in Mississippi (an in-state location, inventory, or employees), or once you cross Mississippi's remote-seller economic-nexus threshold of $250,000 in sales in the previous 12-month period.
Mississippi was one of the first states to enact economic nexus rules (December 2017), predating the Wayfair decision. The $250,000 threshold is higher than the typical $100,000, and there is no transaction count. Mississippi taxes most services broadly and has a 7% statewide rate with no local add-ons. Register through the Mississippi Taxpayer Access Point (TAP).

Non-US founders with Mississippi LLCs
Non-US beneficial owners of a Mississippi LLC can verify with a non-US government photo ID instead of an SSN. Wise still requires a real US business trading address, and a Mississippi registered-agent address alone is typically insufficient for that field. Non-US founders should establish a genuine operational address, in Mississippi or wherever the business actually works from, or use a co-working space address.
