He built MyStateLLC to provide the free, state-specific LLC guidance he wished existed when forming his own companies.

A Pennsylvania LLC is generally eligible for Stripe verification — you will need to provide your Certificate of Organization, EIN, beneficial-owner ID, and a valid US business address. Nothing about forming in Pennsylvania blocks approval, and nothing about it guarantees approval either: the final call is Stripe's.

Stripe must verify your business under KYC/AML rules before it activates payouts. For a Pennsylvania LLC, Stripe collects the legal entity name as filed on your Certificate of Organization, the EIN, the business address, the representative's identity, and beneficial-owner details. Forming an LLC and getting an EIN is the standard 'Stripe Atlas alternative' path. You do the same steps Atlas automates, in Pennsylvania or in any other state you choose.

In Pennsylvania the entity behind that check is an LLC created by filing a Certificate of Organization, which costs $125. Pennsylvania publishes a turnaround of 2-4 days. Because Pennsylvania names a member or manager on a routine public filing, the owner name Stripe asks you to confirm is already a matter of public record.

Not legal advice: Verification requirements change, and so do Pennsylvania's filing fees and forms. Confirm current platform rules with Stripe, and current filing rules with the Pennsylvania filing office, before you file. Stripe's requirements were last reviewed 2026-07-21, and Pennsylvania's figures on this page come from its own published schedule.

What Stripe requires, and how a Pennsylvania LLC meets each

RequirementHow your Pennsylvania LLC satisfies it
Legal entity nameUse the exact LLC name as Pennsylvania recorded it on your Certificate of Organization; it must match your bank account holder name.
Employer Identification NumberProvide your federal EIN (free from the IRS; non-US founders without an SSN must apply via Form SS-4 by fax or phone rather than the online tool) — independent of Pennsylvania.
Business addressUse a US street address registered to the LLC in Pennsylvania (your Pennsylvania registered-agent or virtual business address), since a PO box is usually rejected.
Representative & owner identityProvide a government ID for each beneficial owner named in your Pennsylvania filings. Pennsylvania names a member or manager on a routine public filing, so at least one name already matches state records.
Payout bank accountLink a US business bank account opened with your EIN and your Pennsylvania Certificate of Organization.

Pennsylvania-specific things to watch

  • Pennsylvania names a member or manager on a routine public filing, so Stripe's beneficial-owner check will line up with public state records — you still upload a government ID for each owner. (Pennsylvania's annual report names at least one governor (a member or manager with management responsibility).)
  • Pennsylvania issues a Certificate of Organization rather than "Articles of Organization." When Stripe asks for "formation documents," upload your Certificate of Organization.

Pennsylvania sales tax & nexus rules for Stripe sellers

Pennsylvania charges a 6% state sales-tax rate. Payments through Stripe are not covered by marketplace-facilitator laws — you collect and remit yourself. Registration is required before your first taxable sale if you have physical presence in Pennsylvania (an in-state location, inventory, or employees), or once you cross Pennsylvania's remote-seller economic-nexus threshold of $100,000 in sales in the previous 12-month period.

Pennsylvania eliminated its 200-transaction threshold, leaving only the $100,000 revenue trigger. Pennsylvania broadly taxes digital products and SaaS delivered electronically. The state's 6% rate is uniform (Philadelphia and Allegheny County add 2% and 1% respectively for local taxes). Register through the myPATH portal. Pennsylvania taxes software-as-a-service as tangible personal property.

How to verify your Pennsylvania LLC on Stripe

  1. Legal entity name. Use the exact LLC name as Pennsylvania recorded it on your Certificate of Organization; it must match your bank account holder name.
  2. Employer Identification Number. Provide your federal EIN (free from the IRS; non-US founders without an SSN must apply via Form SS-4 by fax or phone rather than the online tool) — independent of Pennsylvania.
  3. Business address. Use a US street address registered to the LLC in Pennsylvania (your Pennsylvania registered-agent or virtual business address), since a PO box is usually rejected.
  4. Representative & owner identity. Provide a government ID for each beneficial owner named in your Pennsylvania filings. Pennsylvania names a member or manager on a routine public filing, so at least one name already matches state records.
  5. Payout bank account. Link a US business bank account opened with your EIN and your Pennsylvania Certificate of Organization.

Non-US founders with Pennsylvania LLCs

Non-US founders commonly form a US LLC in Pennsylvania, obtain an EIN (no SSN required, via Form SS-4), open a US-capable business bank account, and then onboard to Stripe as a US business, the manual equivalent of Stripe Atlas. A US ITIN or SSN is not required to get the Pennsylvania LLC an EIN. The representative must still complete Stripe's identity verification: Stripe will request the last 4 digits of the representative's SSN, and if automated verification fails it falls back to the full SSN or a government-issued ID scan. A non-US representative of a Pennsylvania LLC should expect to provide that ID scan.
