Payoneer is a global payment platform used by marketplace sellers, freelancers, and businesses to receive cross-border payments and access multi-currency accounts. For a North Carolina LLC, Payoneer requires business registration documents (in North Carolina, your Articles of Organization), an IRS EIN document, proof of business address, and identity information for beneficial owners. Payoneer is also the default payment processor for Walmart Marketplace seller payouts.
In North Carolina the entity behind that check is an LLC created by filing Articles of Organization, which costs $125. North Carolina publishes a turnaround of 15-20 business days. Because North Carolina names a member or manager on a routine public filing, the owner name Payoneer asks you to confirm is already a matter of public record.
What Payoneer requires, and how a North Carolina LLC meets each
| Requirement | How your North Carolina LLC satisfies it |
|---|---|
| Business registration certificate | Upload the Articles of Organization North Carolina returned to you, stamped and approved. |
| IRS EIN document | Provide your federal EIN (free from the IRS; non-US founders without an SSN must apply via Form SS-4 by fax or phone rather than the online tool) — independent of North Carolina. |
| Beneficial owner identity (25%+ owners) | Provide a government ID for each beneficial owner named in your North Carolina filings. North Carolina names a member or manager on a routine public filing, so at least one name already matches state records. |
| Business address proof | Use a US street address registered to the LLC in North Carolina (your North Carolina registered-agent or virtual business address), since a PO box is usually rejected. |
| Consistent business name across all documents | Use the exact LLC name as North Carolina recorded it on your Articles of Organization; it must match your bank account holder name. |
North Carolina-specific things to watch
- North Carolina names a member or manager on a routine public filing, so Payoneer's beneficial-owner check will line up with public state records — you still upload a government ID for each owner. (North Carolina's annual report and foreign application provide manager/member information, public records.)
North Carolina sales tax & nexus rules for Payoneer sellers
North Carolina charges a 4.75% state sales-tax rate. Payments through Payoneer are not covered by marketplace-facilitator laws — you collect and remit yourself. Registration is required before your first taxable sale if you have physical presence in North Carolina (an in-state location, inventory, or employees), or once you cross North Carolina's remote-seller economic-nexus threshold of $100,000 in sales in the previous or current calendar year (no transaction-count threshold).
North Carolina has a uniform local rate of 2% statewide on top of the 4.75% state rate, bringing the total to 6.75% in most counties (some counties add a small extra amount). North Carolina taxes digital property and SaaS that is delivered electronically. The state is an SST member. Register through the NC Department of Revenue. Note: North Carolina repealed its 200-transaction economic-nexus trigger (effective 2024); only the $100,000 sales threshold now applies.

Non-US founders with North Carolina LLCs
Payoneer is widely used by non-US founders receiving marketplace payments worldwide. Non-US owners of a North Carolina LLC verify with their own non-US government ID. The entity still needs a US business address and an EIN alongside its North Carolina registration. Payoneer supports receiving payments in multiple currencies without a US bank account.
